Overview
Since 1999, Changsha University of Science and Technology(CSUST) has been accredited to recruit and train international students. Since Changsha University of Science and Technology began to recruit international students in large scale from 2007, the scale of international students has been growing rapidly. In recent years, the number of the countries where international students come from has increased to 48, and the annual recruitment scale has reached 100 people. Therefore, Changsha University of Science and Technology is awarded as the advanced unit for international students and students from Hongkong, Macao and Taiwan.
The recruitment and training of international students rely deeply on the key disciplines, advanced faculty as well as the teaching platform. After more than 10 years of development, the student resources are complete, and the education level covers undergraduates, postgraduates and doctoral candidates. A multi-level and comprehensive training system has been established which mainly focuses on academic education and is supplemented by long or short term Chinese training. The system is also multi-type covering Chinese government scholarship students, Confucius Institute scholarship students, university-enterprise cooperative students, and inter-universities cooperative students. Now more than 10 key disciplines in either Chinese or English have been established to train international students which include civil engineering, electrical engineering, hydraulic engineering, mechanical engineering, business administration and so on.
According to related national policy of international students training and the overall goal of personnel training in our university, the goal of training international students in our university is to cultivate the international professional talents and managements talents to obtain a better understanding of and become friendly to China, to cultivate them with good scientific and humanistic abilities, solid foundation of their majors, profound practical ability and with a good understanding of international laws and regulations. To date, nearly 1000 international students have been trained.
It is necessary to give full play of the key disciplines in our university such as civil engineering, electrical engineering, and hydraulic engineering and to positively explore the university-enterprise cooperation model to train international students. In 2007, our university began to cooperate with CRBC and has trained 31Angolastudents who majored in civil engineering and has established a unique university- enterprise cooperation system. Up to now, a total of 93 international students have been trained by our university and the enterprises jointly trained.
